The Federal Ministry of Works announced yesterday that Eko Bridge will be closed for eight weeks to undergo essential asphalt resurfacing on both the bridge and its ramps. In a statement, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Engr. (Mrs) Olukorede Kesha, stated that the closure will be complete in some sections and partial in others, beginning Friday, September 20, and lasting until November 20, 2024.
The project is aimed at improving road safety and enhancing the driving experience for motorists. It involves milling the existing asphalt, laying new asphalt, and addressing wear and tear to provide a smoother, safer roadway. Detours and alternate routes include Funsho Williams Avenue, the service lane at Alaka, connecting to Costain and Eko Bridge.
“Island: Access Costain to connect Eko Bridge and link Apongbon; Apongbon inwards Eko Bridge and link Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue.
“For Costain inwards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue, pass through Apapa Road from Costain and link Oyingbo to access Adekunle then link the Third Mainland Bridge.
“For Surulere, use Costain to link Breweries inwards the Abebe Village to connect Eric Moore/Bode Thomas.”
She advised residents and businesses within the closure zone to plan accordingly.
For safety precautions, she said appropriate signage and traffic control measures will be in place to guide drivers and pedestrians.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to improve our infrastructure,” she said.
