The Nigerian Federal Government has announced plans to reduce drug imports in the country from 60% to 40% in order to promote local drug manufacturing.
Salma Anas-Ibrahim, the Special Adviser to the President on Health, shared this update during a workshop held in Abuja to strengthen collaboration between the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Nigeria.
Anas-Ibrahim emphasized that President Bola Tinubu is committed to addressing the gaps in the country’s health sector. One of President Tinubu’s key priorities is to improve access to fair healthcare services for all citizens.
As part of this agenda, efforts are being made to implement a national health insurance scheme that aims to provide coverage to at least 40% of Nigeria’s population, ensuring that even vulnerable groups have access to healthcare benefits.
