A fire outbreak at Fat Noble filling station, an independent marketing oil firm situated along Old Road, opposite Torikoh, Badagry, Lagos State, resulted in injuries to at least four individuals on Wednesday.
Reports from the News Agency of Nigeria revealed that the incident occurred around 1 a.m. at the back of the station. The attendants were dispensing petrol into jerry cans and sacks when an explosion took place.
An eyewitness disclosed, “They are selling fuel which is to be smuggled out of the country. Immediately, there was a sudden explosion.”
The fire ravaged a section of the station prior to the arrival of the Lagos Fire Service team.
The injured individuals were swiftly taken to the General Hospital in Badagry. While some sustained severe injuries and were admitted, others with minor injuries received immediate treatment.
Mr. Isaac Dossa, the Station Head of Badagry Fire Service, reported that they were alerted about the fire at 1.15 a.m. and reached the scene by 1.25 a.m., extinguishing the fire by 3.55 a.m. He said,
“We got to the scene of the fire incident around 1.25 a.m. and the fire was put off around 3.55 a.m. the same day.
“They have taken most of the victims of the fire incident to the general hospital before our arrival”.
Upon visiting the hospital’s emergency unit, a correspondent from NAN observed four injured men receiving medical attention.
Dr. Olatunde Bakare, the Medical Director, confirmed their timely admission and assured that they are under the care of medical professionals.
