“I believe that leading Manchester City to a historic treble would be the pinnacle of my incredible career,” Erling Haaland expressed in a recently published interview.
Haaland’s remarkable tally of 36 goals in the Premier League played a crucial role in City’s successful title defense.
With the FA Cup final against Manchester United approaching on Saturday and the Champions League final against Inter Milan scheduled for June 10, Pep Guardiola’s team has the opportunity to achieve unprecedented glory.
In 1999, Manchester United became the only English club to secure the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in a single season, a feat Haaland hopes to replicate. “Undoubtedly, it would be an extraordinary achievement. That’s precisely why they brought me here, to accomplish this historic milestone. There’s no hiding that,” Haaland candidly shared with the BBC.
“It would mean the world to me. I’m willing to give everything I have to make it a reality. It’s my ultimate dream, and I sincerely hope dreams do come true.”
However, Haaland acknowledges that both Manchester United and Inter Milan will be fiercely determined to thwart City’s pursuit of a treble. “Undeniably, it won’t be easy,” he acknowledged. “We are facing two formidable opponents in two finals, and they will go to great lengths to shatter our ambitions.”
In his debut season in the Premier League, Haaland has taken the football world by storm, scoring an impressive 52 goals across all competitions since his transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
His exceptional performances earned him the distinction of being the first player to win both the Premier League Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards in the same season. Additionally, he was recognized as the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Men’s Footballer of the Year.
This past year has been transformative for Haaland, who remarked, “I’m 196cm tall, with long blond hair, so wherever I go, I attract attention. That’s just how my life is.”
Accepting his unique circumstances, he added, “There’s nothing I can do about it; it’s simply my reality. I strive to enjoy every moment as much as possible. When I’m home, being surrounded by good company is essential. I try my best to savor life.”
Offering a warning to Premier League defenders for the upcoming season, Haaland emphasized that he is still a work in progress. “I have experienced tremendous growth, which is crucial for me, considering my age,” he explained.
“At 22, I have a long career ahead, and there is still room for improvement. That’s something I had in mind over a year ago when I contemplated my next move.”
