Eni’s subsidiary, the Nigerian Agip Exploration Limited (NAE), continues its commitment to education and human capital development by awarding scholarships to 29 Nigerian graduates for postgraduate studies, both overseas and in Nigerian universities, through its 2023/2024 awards scheme.
Nine of the beneficiaries are set to embark on postgraduate studies in various universities in the United Kingdom and one in Finland.
The remaining awardees will pursue their postgraduate studies in Nigerian universities, specializing in disciplines such as Engineering, Geosciences, Petroleum and Environmental Technology, and Petroleum Law.
Selection of the beneficiaries was based on their past academic achievements and performance in the recent computer-based test, which had over 700 shortlisted applicants for this year’s award scheme.
The award letters were presented to the recipients in Abuja by Eni Nigeria’s Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Fabrizio Bolondi. Speaking at the ceremony, Bolondi congratulated the beneficiaries and emphasized the significance of the moment, not only in recognizing the exceptional talent and dedication of the scholars but also in highlighting the substantial investment in the future of education, innovation, and progress in the country.
The postgraduate scholarship scheme, initiated in 2007, is part of the company’s broader human capital development efforts aimed at promoting knowledge acquisition and addressing the skills gap in specialized fields relevant to deep offshore Oil and Gas operations in Nigeria.
Since its inception, a total of 290 graduates have benefited from the Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme introduced by the company in 2007.
This initiative plays a vital role in filling the skills gap in the Oil and Gas sector while contributing to the training and equipping of local professionals with the necessary knowledge required in the industry.
Eni, through NAE, has undertaken various sustainability initiatives in Nigeria, spanning health, education, access to water, infrastructure provisions, and initiatives for stakeholder empowerment in local communities.
These include the provision of 22 integrated water schemes for domestic consumption and irrigation in North-East Nigeria and Abuja Federal Capital Territory in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to enhance water access for communities affected by the humanitarian crisis in Northeast Nigeria.
Additionally, Eni has supported healthcare by supplying Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) in Port Harcourt.
The company has also contributed Cardiothoracic equipment, including the Heart-Lung Machine LivaNova (Sorin/Stockert) S5 complete system, to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano.
Furthermore, a Research and Innovation Laboratory has been established at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, as part of Eni’s commitment to advancing research and innovation in the region.
