Operatives from the Department of State Services, Niger State Command, conducted a surprise raid on a suspected terrorist’s residence in the Kulobe community within the Gbeganu area of Minna.
The operation, executed in the early hours of Tuesday, October 24, 2023, yielded a significant stockpile of AK47 rifles and a vast quantity of ammunition.
The mission was initiated based on a tip-off provided by vigilant neighbors, according to a report by Punch.
The suspected terrorist, upon noticing the approaching operatives via his CCTV system, engaged them in a fierce gun battle.
In an attempt to evade capture, the suspect utilized a rocket launcher to breach a portion of his house’s perimeter wall, making his escape, but leaving behind his wife and children, who were taken into custody by the security personnel.
A confidential security source disclosed to the publication that during their inventory check, over 150 AK-47 rifles, explosives, a rocket launcher, anti-aircraft rifles, and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition were uncovered within the house.
Several community residents and neighbors reported hearing intense exchanges of gunfire, as well as the unmistakable sound of the rocket launcher.
“We believed that bandits had invaded our community. The volume of gunfire between the terrorists and the security forces was deafening, causing damage to some of my electronics and furniture. The commotion gave the impression that a substantial number of bandits were involved,” one source stated.
Furthermore, it was discovered that a watchman residing nearby, Mubarak Abubakar, had been struck by a stray bullet during the encounter and is presently receiving medical attention at the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna.
