In a devastating incident, Ishie Abraham, a final-year student in the Department of Computer Science at Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, has allegedly been shot to death by his hostel caretaker.
According to SaharaReporters, the fatal confrontation stemmed from a disagreement over a generator.
Reports indicate that the community chairman tried to resolve the dispute but the caretaker was not satisfied. The caretaker, a former community chairman went ahead to further harass Abraham on the same day, ultimately resulting in the tragic shooting.
The incident prompted a protest among the students in the community. Delta State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Edafe Bright, confirmed the occurrence, stating that the suspect is currently at large, with efforts underway to apprehend him.
In response to the heartbreaking incident, a factional national leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) issued a statement, urging authorities to promptly seek justice for the deceased.
The statement reads in part: “We received the sad news of the death of Mr. Ishie Abraham, a student of Delta State Polytechnic Otefe-Oghara. The circumstances surrounding the death of such a young and vibrant man are completely condemnable, as the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) frowns upon the killing of its members.
“We are calling on the security authorities, particularly the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, and the state government to urgently seek justice for this promising young man whose life was cut short.
“Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the polytechnic community, especially the immediate family and friends of the deceased. The apex student body is committed to ensuring justice in this tragic incident.
“We call for calm and orderliness among our students, while urging the police to make immediate arrests and prosecute the culprit(s).”
“Lastly, we strongly discourage any involvement in criminal activities, as the leadership of NANS will never tolerate any form of injustice against our students. None of us should be a victim of such a tragic fate,” the statement added.
NANS expressed condolences to the polytechnic community, the bereaved family, and friends of the deceased, underscoring its commitment to ensuring justice prevails.
