Rev. Fr. Anthony Adikwu of Otukpo Diocese has been safely rescued by the police after enduring days in captivity at the hands of kidnappers. The abduction took place last Thursday when armed gunmen invaded Ajegbe Awume in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue state, specifically targeting St. Margaret’s parish.
Following the incident, a special unit known as Operation Zenda was promptly dispatched to track down the suspected kidnappers. Their relentless efforts paid off on Tuesday, June 20, as they successfully rescued Rev. Father Adikwu.
SP Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, confirmed the priest’s rescue and shed light on the circumstances. She stated, “Our team has been actively pursuing the kidnappers in that area for some time. The sustained pressure we applied ultimately forced them to release him.”
The release of Rev. Fr. Adikwu was attributed to the relentless efforts and persistent pursuit by the police team, highlighting their dedication and commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the public.
