A two-storey building, including a penthouse, has crumbled in the Ebute Metta region of Lagos. Situated on Herbert Macaulay Way, the structure collapsed at approximately 9.30 am last Friday.
According to Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency, it is believed that three individuals are trapped beneath the debris.
Farinloye revealed that while a woman is suspected to be among those trapped, there’s uncertainty about the identity of the other two. He stated,
“It is suspected that a woman illegally occupying is trapped though it is suspected that there could be an additional two people along with her but no one could confirm that except the woman only.
“The Lagos Building Control Agency (LASBCA) had issued evacuation notice several times and all the original occupants had parked out.
“It was alleged that the property had been sold out about 4 months ago. Three of the occupants jumped to safety with the assistance of the residents.
“Search and rescue operation is ongoing.”
