After enduring 10 days in captivity, Mr. Mathew Abo, the Benue State Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, has been released from captivity.
Mr. Abo was abducted from his Zaki-Biam residence on September 24, 2023, in the presence of his family members and associates.
His abductors set him free in the early hours of Thursday, although it was not immediately disclosed whether the N60 million ransom demanded by the kidnappers was paid for his release.
In a statement personally signed by Mr. Abo, he expressed his gratitude to Governor Hyacinth Alia, security agencies, and his colleagues for their efforts in securing his release.
He also affirmed his determination to continue serving the state and called for cooperation in addressing security challenges.
Mr. Abo stated, “I appreciate all the efforts and prayers that have culminated in my safe release and reunion with my family and society. I wish that my ordeal will lead to renewed efforts to tackle both internal and external security challenges in the state and I call for the cooperation of everyone in the task ahead.”
He also assured his commitment to serving the people of the state as a member of the Benue State Executive Council.
