In a tragic incident, the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, expressed his concerns regarding the leadership of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre following a devastating church building collapse in Makurdi. The collapse claimed the life of the resident pastor, Ahmed Sunday.
The unfortunate event occurred at the Dunamis Church located in Mission Ward North Bank, Makurdi. Sources revealed that four church members, along with Pastor Ahmed Sunday, were inside the building, engaged in a prayer session when the structure suddenly gave way. Fortunately, three individuals managed to escape the wreckage.
Upon visiting the site, Governor Alia was visibly disappointed by the absence of any church leaders on the scene. He strongly criticized the construction quality of the building and announced its revocation. The Governor emphasized the need for the church leadership to be aware of and adhere to the law.
Governor Alia stated, “We have to locate where the leadership of the church is and to inform them that the land has been revoked because we have to save lives. Those living along the waterways would vacate immediately.
“So the Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development should step in. I need to know who approved this structure. We need to know the engineers or the architects who monitored this gigantic project. We need to stop these from happening.”
The Dunamis Church is led by Dr. Paul Enenche.
