In keeping with his customary tradition of sharing his favorite summer tunes, former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, has once again included songs by Nigerian musicians Burna Boy and Ayra Starr in his 2023 playlist.
Announcing the curated selection through his Twitter handle on Thursday night, the 44th American leader featured ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ by Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy, which features US-based British rapper 21 Savage. Additionally, he added Ayra Starr’s hit track ‘Sability’ as the only afrobeats songs on the playlist.
Sharing the playlist, Obama wrote, “As I do every year, here are some songs I’ve been enjoying this summer—a mix of old and new. Looking forward to hearing what I’ve missed.”
The Nigerian music stars found themselves in the company of other superstars such as Jorja Smith, SZA, J Hus, Drake, Nas, and Rosalia, creating a dynamic playlist that combines classic and contemporary records.
It’s worth noting that this is not the first time that Burna Boy or Ayra Starr has made it onto Obama’s annual summer playlist. Both artists previously featured with their tracks ‘Last Last’ and ‘Rush’ making the cut in 2022.
Wizkid, Rema, and Tems have also earned the honor of being featured on the former President’s list in the past.
