The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially postponed the commencement of its gubernatorial election campaign for November 11th.
Originally slated for October 14, 2023, this decision was shared in a statement by Perry Tukuwei, the Director of Media and Publicity for the Bayelsa APC Gubernatorial Campaign Council.
The party explained that the postponement was necessitated by exigencies arising from the office of President Bola Tinubu, who expressed a strong desire to attend the event.
While offering apologies for any inconvenience caused, the APC assured all stakeholders, party members, and the general public that a new date would soon be unveiled.
The APC also encouraged its members to maintain their focus on the primary objective of ousting the PDP-led government in the state.
Notably, some stakeholders within the Bayelsa chapter of the APC had expressed disapproval of the gubernatorial standard-bearer, Chief Timipre Sylva, who assumed the role of Director General of the campaign council.
The Bayelsa APC Integrity Group, represented by Chief Ebipadeowei Oyinkuro, highlighted that this move validated their concerns about the party’s flag bearer’s unilateral approach. They lamented the dwindling support for the APC in Bayelsa State, despite its once-prominent position in the public eye.
Meanwhile, campaign activities continue in Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, with Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA on Tuesday, and Southern Ijaw Local Government Area scheduled for Wednesday.
