Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative during his visit to Premier Primary School in Obosi, Idemili North Council Area.
He announced a comprehensive plan to provide free and compulsory education from nursery to Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) in all public schools across the state.
Governor Soludo expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that education becomes accessible to every child, regardless of their background.
He emphasized that no student, from nursery to JSS 3, would be burdened with school fees or any additional charges for their education within the state.
“The aim is to return to the fundamental principles where education served as the great equalizer, enabling children from diverse economic backgrounds to study together and compete on a level playing field,” stated Soludo.
He further emphasized that this policy shift would eliminate barriers to quality education, ensuring that every child had the opportunity to develop their potential, talents, and mental and physical abilities.
Governor Soludo made it clear that his administration would not tolerate non-compliance with this new education policy, which encompasses not only tuition fees but also various other dues and levies that often burden students.
“In Anambra, our most valuable resource is our human capital. That’s why our government is taking deliberate steps and making strategic investments in public education.
Today, we declare that no nursery, primary, or Junior Secondary School student will be required to pay any fees, dues, or levies,” Governor Soludo affirmed.
Furthermore, the governor announced a significant reduction in tuition fees for senior secondary school students (SSS 1 – 3). Previously ranging from 8,000 to 12,000 Naira per term depending on the school, these fees have now been standardized to a flat rate of 5,000 Naira for all students.
Importantly, no additional fees, levies, or dues will be associated with this tuition fee, which is intended solely for the operational needs of the schools, with no remittance to the government.
