The police in Ogun State have apprehended a 77-year-old man named Adedamola Idowu, who is accused of sexually assaulting his seven-year-old daughter. His 26-year-old neighbor, Oluwatobi Adebisi, was also arrested on similar charges. The arrests took place on Friday in Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode.
According to PREMIUM TIMES, on Tuesday, the suspects were paraded by the Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu, at the state’s police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta. Mr. Alamutu explained that the case has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, the victim has been directed to undergo counseling and emotional therapy.
“The father and his neighbor have been engaging in unlawful sexual acts with the seven-year-old girl,” Mr. Alamutu stated. “The victim is receiving counseling and emotional therapy, and the case has been transferred to SCID for discreet investigation and prosecution.”
During the event, the police chief also announced a one-month grace period for cult members in the state to surrender any firearms and ammunition they possess. He cautioned that the police would crack down on suspected cultists throughout the state after the grace period ends.
“However, we understand that some individuals may have been coerced into joining cults without fully comprehending the consequences, and they have become trapped,” he said. “The Command is offering amnesty to such individuals. They are urged to renounce their membership in these groups and hand over all firearms and ammunition in their possession. The Command will not stand idly by while a few unscrupulous individuals make life unbearable for law-abiding citizens and residents of Ogun State.”
